Today if you tell people that the Nairobi they knew as swamp land, they would definitely not believe it. Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya and the most populous city in East Africa. It is also currently the 4th largest city in Africa. The city is centered on the city square, which is located in the Central Business District. The Kenyan Parliament buildings, the Holy Family Cathedral, Nairobi City Hall, Nairobi Law Courts and the Kenyatta Conference Centre all surround the square.

Politically and financially Nairobi is considered as one of the most prominent cities in Africa. Nairobi is established as a hub for business, organizations, and culture.

It is a home to United Nations Environment Program and the UN office in Africa and also the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), one of Africa's largest. The NSE was officially recognized as an overseas stock exchange by the London Stock Exchange in 1953. The exchange is Africa's 4th largest (in terms of trading volumes) and 5th (in terms of Market Capitalization as a percentage of GDP).

Nairobi is the regional headquarters of several international companies and organizations. This makes it one of the most influential cities in Africa. In 2007 alone, General Electric, Young & Rubicam, Google, Coca Cola, Celtel and Cisco Systems relocated their African headquarters to the city.

The United Nations has strong presence in Nairobi; the United Nations Office at Nairobi hosts UNEP and UN-Habitat headquarters. Several of Africa's largest companies are headquartered in Nairobi. KenGen, which is the largest African stock outside South Africa, is based in the city. Kenya Airways, Africa's fourth largest airline, uses Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as a hub

AN INTRODUCTION TO NAIROBI

Goods manufactured in Nairobi include clothing, textiles, building materials, processed foods, beverages, cigarettes etc. Several foreign companies have factories based in and around the city.

These include Goodyear, General Motors, Toyota Motors, Coca Cola and American audit firm Price water house Cooper Nairobi has a large tourist industry, being both a tourist destination and a transport hub.

Nairobi has many parks and open spaces throughout the city like the jevangee garden, it has a dense tree cover. The most famous is the Uhuru Park which is a center for outdoor speeches, services and rallies. The most unique park is the Nairobi national Park which boarders Nairobi making it the only capital city in the world being bordered by a national park.Nairobi is a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. It has diverse and multicultural composition and due to this, there are a number of churches, mosques, temples, and gurdwaras within the city.

If you are a traveler visiting Nairobi and happens to like entertainment, you shouldn’t be worried. There are a variety of theaters and two drive inns. If it is music, Nairobi has it all. Nairobi has become the center for Kenyan hip hop and other kinds of music. Nightclubs are also in plenty and they attract a large number of customers.

Nairobi has many spectacular hotels to cater for its people and foreigners at large. Nairobi Serena, Grand Regency, Windsor, Holiday inn, East African Safari club, Stanley hotel, Safari park $ Casino are just of the few Five star hotels located in Nairobi. Due to the great entertainment that Nairobi has to offer, it is perceived as a small “New York” in Africa by people around Eastern Africa especially the Tanzanians who had the chance of visiting it.
